Caroline Stankozi

Network Coordinator, Ph.D. candidate

PhD candidate, Institute for Philosophy II, Ruhr University Bochum

The possibility of non-neural cognition has driven me ever since my bachelor’s thesis. I am fascinated by the biomolecular processes within a cell and by how they scale up to and compare to multi-cellular behaviour. Are there general principles that explain learning behaviour both in single-celled paramecia and in humans? In my PhD thesis on “Cognitive Coupling”, I use an ecologized enactive framework to explain how organisms cognitively regulate the way they are coupled to their environment. I work empirically informed and appreciate interdisciplinary collaborations. To stay in touch between conferences, I have established the “Basic Principles of Cognition” reading group with brilliant researchers around the world.
